Volunteers care for our equine residents seven days per week, every day of the year.
Each morning an experienced, in-charge person arrives at the barn at 8:00 am to check on the horses and get everyone dressed for turnout. Horses are turned out and brought back in by Silver Spur Ranch staff.
The afternoon shift is run by an in-charge person who directs the activities of 3-5 volunteers. This shift begins at 4:30 pm and generally lasts until 6:00 pm or so. As a volunteer, you will receive hands on instruction in preparing supplements, leading, grooming, bathing and tending to minor medical needs. Additional barn chores will be performed as needed.
The minimum age to volunteer is 12 years old. After attending a volunteer shift observation , you will have several options for volunteering your time with Field of Dreams. You may sign up for the shifts that work out best for you, whether that be once per month or multiple times per week.
Volunteer Shift Observation
This observation takes place during an active volunteer shift and involves touring the barn, meeting our horses and enables you to ask any questions. Volunteers under the age of 18 need to have a parent or guardian present.
If you decide to become a Barn Volunteer, there is a $30 new volunteer registration fee which includes a Field of Dreams t'shirt to wear during your barn shifts.
Fundraising and Campaign Volunteers
As a charity that is entirely reliant on donations, fundraising is an essential part of what Field of Dreams does. This means organizing events, sending out appeals, managing merchandise and much more to ensure that we raise as much as possible to help rescue, rehabilitate and rehome as many horses as possible.
We are always looking for people with ideas for fundraising or those with grant writing experience, or the willingness to learn, so contact us to find out how you can help with our current events and planned projects.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please complete and submit the Volunteer Application Form. Once we receive the form, Kim Baldyga, our Volunteer Coordinator, will contact you regarding the next steps in the volunteering process.
